Why Do You Need A Membrane Replacement?

How To Check For Torn Membrane?
The simplest way to check if your BMW n52 PCV valve has a torn membrane or not is by putting the tube on a breather valve and blowing into the membrane (exhale and draw in the tube air). In case of a torn membrane, the valve will become completely purged.
Replacing The Membrane:
First, you must remove the valve cover slowly using a screwdriver.
Next, remove the membrane cover, which remains glued to the plant in 1-2 places, but can still be removed. You can use a small hammer to gently knock this cover. If you don’t want to break the retaining clips, you can heat up the area using a hairdryer and toothpick (to separate the retaining bracket from the membrane).
Having the cover removed, you need to wash up the valve’s interior using gasoline. Make sure that any residual adhesive is also removed.
Now, place the valve back in its position, along with the spring, diaphragm as well as cover.
Prior to installing the new membrane, make sure that the ears are heated and bent towards the center. You can also add some sealant on the edge for your peace of mind.
Now, install the new membrane.
In case the retaining bracket gets broken at the time of disassembly, you can glue it back using epoxy adhesive. Pre-wipe the neck and cover with acetone, and hold the retaining bracket on the neck until it is set in place.
Immediately after the diaphragm has been replaced, the engine will not function steadily in its first run. However, after your BMW n52 PCV membrane is replaced, and the unaccounted air has be eliminated from the engine, you must allow the engine to run for some time and only then it will restore to its original operation.
